Long Day's Night

Posted on Wed Jan 22nd, 2020 @ 11:16pm by Skyplex Administration Scarlett Wilson & Alliance Oksanna Petrovich & Civilian Sapphire DeVaine & Gill Anderson

Mission: Opening Shop
Location: Deck 3 - Furror's Pub
Timeline: Evening after the Purge

Oksanna had her face propped up by one arm as she starred down at the candle at the small table in a back corner of Furror's. The evening crowd was gradually filing in and a relaxed atmosphere of people unwinding from work was taking a hold of the popular pub near the center of the Skyplex's hub level. Across the plaza were well landscaped planters with trees and plants form the planet below them. A partially filled shot glass of clear liquid sat in front of Oksanna. She starred at the small glass of Vodka quizzically. Did she really want to drink another? Her mind still spun from her shift the previous day. Those poor women. She had done her part. She filed an official report, but as their credentials received no flags from immigration control there was nothing she could do. She pictured herself, having a man tell her when she could or could not speak, or even look up. A flash of anger shot through the woman known for her level headedness. She picked up the shot glass and downed its contents, inverting and lowering the empty vessel to the table top. She felt the warmth of the alcohol spreading out through her body. She closed her eyes grasping the solace of the sensation. And the moment passed. She blearily lifted an arm up to flag the bartender. "Komrade Dolf, ein mas bitteshon."

The old man with the long white beard and mustache nodded to her as he went about filling her order. Shortly after Dolph Heidler appeared at the table with another glass. "Entschuldigen Fruelien Petrovich, are you sure you are well with having another glass, it is your fifth, I would not like your evening to turn unpleasant." Oksanna looked up at the old man with a slightly twisted form of her well practiced smile. "One more Herr Heidler, I'll be good." Dolph nodded and handed her the glass with a resigned sigh. "Last one my dear. Then you sleep it off." Oksanna smiled and started giggling. "Ja, Opa, just this one. Danke." Oksanna propped her face up with one arm starring at the small glass quizzically...

There came a scrape and a thud as someone moved the stool next to her, and then a black Stetson was placed down on the bar. Gill Anderson, Alliance Marshall was currently well and truly off duty and his tired eyes and weary smile spoke of him being glad of it.

"Oksanna." he greeted her with a nod of the head before catching the eye of the barkeep.

"Whiskey. Neat." he ordered, "and keep em coming."

Oksanna gave Gill a bleary smile and suddenly sat up straight realising who he was. She ran her fingers through her hair in a meager attempt to straighten herself, nearly knocking herself out of her chair. "Marshal Anderson. please have a seat.... uh... you already have one... I mean you are welcome.... I mean... Welcome to Greenleaf Skyplex." her rehearsed line came out with a tooth gritting smile as she tried to shrink back from the trainwreck she was presenting of herself.

Gill offered a warm smile to put the woman at her ease. She was clearly several drinks ahead of him and he had thrown her of guard it would seem. He had remembered her face from the station files he had been reviewing that morning, a difficult face to forget so the name had stuck. He knocked back his first whiskey in one hit and tapped the glass for another.

"Thank you." he said at last, "How are things down at the..." he drew a blank, he remembered the face, remembered the name and now for gods sake he could not remember what the hell she did. So he settled for, "How are things?" and left it at that.

Oksanna looked up at him with an honest smile. "Customs and Immigration. I've been doing this job for six years, but somehow that group from... Colic.. I think.... I've never seen anything like that. I put in a report to central about potential human trafficking, but nothing back so far. Those women. Completely subservient to men of their group. It was eerie. Unnerving. I can't get their faces out of my mind. Thus my evening with my old friend Smirnoff." she said lifting the shot glass that sat in front of her. She downed the glass, inverted it and placed it down on the table. "I really need to slow down... but I don;t really want to..."

"I hear ya." Gill said knocking back his second.

Strolling in, Sapphire knew she made quite the entrance. Which, truthfully, was rather how she liked it. Her rainbow hair done up in a mock pin up style she’d seen of some old Earth that was photo on the Cortex. The whole style was one she tried to copy often. Much like this particular evening. Her attire was a notch less vivid than the leopard and hot pink from when she’d arrived on the Plex, but not by much. The dress was a simple babydoll white, with rainbow trimming around the edges that rested just below her unmentionables enough to be considered decent while fishnet type stockings and heels completed the outfit.

Sapphire spotted Oksanna, teetered her way dramatically joining her old friend and the bar and hoping she kept quiet about just who she really was. Having her parents know she was back on Greenleaf before she had a chance to inform them herself could start a set of drama that Sapphire just didn’t want to deal with. “There ya are, love!” The words dripping from her as she landed there. “You got started without me?” Painted lips pouted as she shifted her gaze to the empty glass and up to Oksanna’s male companion, “Well, hello there dearie.”

Gill raised his glass and smiled before knocking back his third. "My pleasure miss."

"So much for slowing down...." Oksanna mumbled towards her shot glass as Sapphire alighted herself at her side. "I'm six ahead of you. Catch up!" she said with a big smile to her old friend. Giving the Marshal a big smile she awkwardly pointed over her shoulder at Sapphire. "This is Ha... no wait... Starfire... no Staphire... Saph. One of my oldest friends.... what are you wearing? Aren't you just the cutest, let me see you..." Oksanna stumbled trying to back up to get a better look at Sapphire. "Isn't she adorable?" she said to the Marshal.

"She is a picture." he said, blushing a little and trying to strike the balance between admiring a beautiful woman without looking like he was leering. It was a talent he had never quite mastered and often came off as disinterested or shy. Times like this he could almost see his damned younger sister sitting their laughing at him with that "you are such a dolt," look on her face. He wondered what Haddie was up to now? It took the arrival of his fourth whiskey to drag him from his embarrassed musings.

Sapphire completed a small spin. If Oksanna wanted to see the outfit, then so be it and maybe it would garner her a bit more attention. That's what she craved. Attention. "Sapphire DeVaine." She stated, her name tumbling from her lips in her practice sultry voice. Sapphire had no issues in either making herself a sex symbol or being one. But whether that was just her or part of the Companion training she'd never finished was debatable.

A quite flirtatious wink towards the gentleman and she grabbed the bartenders attention, beckoning him over, "We'll have another round, and bring me a few extras, will ya love?" After all, she had a bit of catching up to do.

"Put the ladies drinks on my tab." Gill piped in, "and leave that bottle with me." he leaned in and snatched up the whiskey bottle before pouring himself an extra large glass.

“Well, aren’t you just a gentleman.” Sapphire flashed quick grin in Gill’s direction.

"Well the good news.." he said turning to Oksanna, "...is that the Coolacs will not be staying with us here on the station. Alas there were irreconcilable differences between their unique view of the verse and what we all consider to be normal human behaviour. The Administrator is negotiating their swift departure as.. we... drink." he took a sip of whiskey between each word before leaning back on his stool with a satisfied smile.

Oksanna dipped her head in gratitude towards the Marshal. "Thank you kind sir." she reached over and took his whiskey bottle and poured herself a little more of what she really shouldnt be having. Lifting up her glass she carefully eyed the Marshal. "I'm sure Scarlett will do her best, she always does. Still, it seems like we should do something to see if the women want to get out of that F'n Zse world they are going to. Its so sad."

“I have no idea what you two are chatty about, and I don’t think I truly want to know.” Sapphire waved a hand in the air dismissively, but then betrayed her own words, “But I’m so darn nosey I just can’t help but know. Share. Where is that red headed she devil, anyways? I’ve been here nearly two whole days and haven’t heard a word nor a Wave from her.”

Sapphire tossed the bartender a flirtatious wink as he returned with the requested drinks, “Xie xie.”

Dolph caught the woman's wink and returned a sly smile from his aged whiskered face. He went about preparing another round of Vodka for the group. Just as he had finished an Asian woman spun up and grabbed the flight carrying it over to Sapphire. She placed the drinks down and immediately launched into: "Sapphire Devaine! Big fan! Sandra Singh, Ameoba Wave store, classic recordings, waves and memorabilia. Deck 2 Golden Promenade. Stop on by. Would you mind entertaining us with one of your songs? We get so few celebrities out here. It's gonna be the buzz of the station." she asked with a deeply eager look in her eyes.

Gill raised his eyebrow at the sudden intrusion and gave Sapphire a fresh appraisal which had nothing to do with her attire and good looks, "S'cuse me miss." he said raising he glass to the singer, "Had no idea we were drinking with a celebrity! I'd have wore my other hat."

Sure he was old, but it got their drinks faster, then why the hell not? Not to mention, who didn’t she tend toss such a grin or wink at? It was just in Sapphire’s nature. The arrival of the drinks was welcome, the intrusion...not so much. But ever herself, Sapphire’s smile stayed in place as she listened to the woman. Before she gave her answer she slid a few of the shots closer, lifted one to her lips, letting the clear liquor settle onto painted lips, which she licked off, “I don’t see why not.” She answered.

Sandra started quickly clapping her hands together in excitement.

“I think that one is quite dashing” Sapphire tossed towards the man. Were he and Oksanna a thing? Did she dare flirt with him if they were? She tossed back her first shot, giving the small Asian woman a dismissive wave as she set the empty glass back on the table.

Oksanna was not having one of her better nights. She looked up at Sapphire as she motioned toward her and Gill. She looked over at the Marshal with bleary eyes. "Yeah, he is." she responded not quite aware she was saying it out loud. She tried to catch herself, "I mean he's dashing in a... ah hell... you know like that..." her eyes shifted away form the Marshal as she looked for a means to escape or at least not to be the center of attention. She looked up at Sapphire. "Ha... Sapphire, that would be great I haven't heard you sing in years."

Her smile never seemed to waver as Sapphire's dark eyes darted back and forth between the two, the Asian woman seemingly forgotten. At least momentarily. She winked at Gill, finished off the shot she had left and stood, taking a brief second to adjust her dress before turning towards Sandra, "Shall we?"

Sandra her eyes sparkling immediately stepped forward. "Excellent. I will introduce you and you take it away!" she said with a wink at Sapphire.

Sandra adeptly shot over to Dolph at the bar and then up to the raised platform for live entertainment. Colored lights flicked on and the minispot on the ceiling focused on Sandra as she stepped up. Tapping a wireless mic she raised her arm high above her head. "Hello Furrors Pub! I hope everyone is having a good night tonight, well sit back cause its about to get spectacular. The crowd erupted in applause as Sandra motioned for Sapphire to come up on stage. Handing the mic over to Sapphire and stepped off the platform rushing over to a nearby table and pulling out her Cortex unit pointing the device toward the stage. Unseen by the crowd a Cortex feed starting blasting the performance across the skyplex.
