Mission:
Opening Shop
Location: Deck Six - Dockmaster's Office
Timeline: 6:45am
Scarlett brushed a lock of flame red hair from her eyes. Her body ached. Everything seemed a blur. She was not where she was supposed to be, but the feel and scent of the room was so familiar. The room slowly came into focus, boxes of papers stacked around her, an unstructured scattering of framed certificates and holophotos hung on the sparse walls. She closed her eyes and breathed again. Two years had passed, yet the office still smelled like her father. And like a child she had fallen asleep on the floor looking up at the big desk he had always occupied. But now it was her turn behind the desk again.
DockMaster McAllister had cleared out fast when Alliance authorities arrived. Much of the station records from the last two years were erased or removed. He made off with a small fortune. No love was lost on Scarlett, McAllister had always been a prop for the FuTou Bang tong. They had pretty much run this section of the Rim until the Alliance finally paid enough attention to shut them down. The power vacuum had provided a chance for Scarlett, as a previous administrator with intimate knowledge of the station to take up the reins and hopefully bring a chance to let the people of the Skyplex to actually make something for themselves instead of being effective slaves of the underworld. Not that the Skyplex was free of Fu TOu Bang, but at least they couldn't be in charge at the moment, and Scarlett was determined to keep it that way.
Her daddy had always taught her to keep balance. The Alliance despite all their technological and philosophical advances, would still take everything the merchants of the Skyplex could make. Light, dark, good, bad, rich, poor... only a path through the middle brought happiness. Scarlett was a long way from well off, but she knew this was her home, and any chance at happiness came with keeping the Skyplex safe.
She picked up a stack of fuel reciepts and dropped them in a pile in front of her. Rebuilding two years of lost documentation for Alliance auditors was a thankless chore, but necessary if grants, contracts and supplies were going to again flow through the Skyplex. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath as her fingers feathered over the pile of documents. Why did she agree to this? She needed caffine and food. An inspection trip around Deck 3 was definately in order.
